Some things that happened during the weekend...
My crazy-ass neighbour moved out! Hurray! No more listening to her loud sex and five-hour long bouts of hysteria! Here's hoping the next one in is an old lady or a really hot guy.
I went to see a musical with my Mum, brother and sister-in-law. It's a show based on one of the most depressing books ever, about a little boy in the 1920s who's being physically and mentally abused by his mother, ends up accidentally killing her when he's nine years old, and about how he keeps being haunted by it and reliving it when he grows up and goes off to fight in the war.
It's an absolutely beautiful play, but I was shocked and angry to see how many people had brought their young children to see it! They must have figured: hey, it's got kids, it's got singing, it must be a family show! Well, let me tell you: this is no High School Musical. The little boy (who was absolutely bloody brilliant, by the way) gets beaten, locked up in a coal shed, made to work in a bar, he throws a knife at his mother after which she bleeds to death dramatically ON STAGE, WITH ACTUAL FAKE BLOOD, his best friend dies of TB and he gets separated from everyone who doesn't hate him. That's just the first act. During intermission, I could see parents carrying out crying or else deeply traumatized children, some no more than five, six years old.
Take the poor things to a theme park or a bloody panto, people! Jesus.
In other news, I have decided to fire Matt Smith. Yes, I know I am not in charge of the BBC. I don't care. I've been seeing this lovely man called Michael Sheen, who's going around promoting one of his films on all the talk shows this week, and I have decided that he is the perfect Doctor. I dare you to disagree once you have seen him. Take that, Notward Cullen!
And finally:
this is the kind of stuff that BREAKS ME. Cute little fluffy baby animals are not supposed to die! I've been following those twins since they were born, and they just went outside for the first time this week, and they were playing and frolicking about and everyone loved them, and then suddenly the tiny one is found dead! It's just not fair.
This morning in the papers, they showed pictures of the Mum, who kept nudging and licking and cuddling her little baby, trying to make her wake up. They couldn't remove the body for two days, she was so protective of her. And now they've finally taken her away, the Mum and the twin brother keep calling her and searching for her. I had a bit of a cry over my morning paper, it was just so moving and sad.
