Firstly, it is good that you have enough humility that you can be so open about your problems. Acknowledgment of the problem is always the first step in overcoming it, and you've done that.

The journey of one thousand miles must start with a single step.
And it is no exaggeration.

In my opinion, here are some things I'd consider doing...

I would consider being sincere with your room mates and asking them for help as well. Let them know that you want to start dieting and eating healthier, and part of this involves eating out less. Eating-out less means eating-in more, and for that to happen you need to be able to keep food somewhere. I think if you present it reasonably, you will get a reasonable response.

Try to get a hold of Oscar Reyes if you can, as he's gotten an education in Nutrition. He could tell you exactly what you'd need to eat, and in what quantities. If you take a look at one of my recent posts I mentioned what I eat. Try it on for size, see what you think. Otherwise, general notions:
-No more fast food or soda. Period. No exceptions.
-Drink one glass of water with every meal, and one in between every meal.
-Eat fibrous foods like apples, whole-wheat, and broccoli.
-Get an hour of natural sunlight every day, it's healthy for your body.

Julie does a lot of running and exercising so it'd be worthwhile to see if she'd be up for going on walks around the neighborhood just to get out and about. Having a partner to exercise with helps with motivation.

A change of habits is also appropriate.
One I've adopted myself that I think you should try on is to spend no more than 2 hours at the computer on any given day.
Even if it's 9:00 P.M., and there's seemingly nothing else to do, and you can't sleep, don't get on the computer just for the sake of killing time.
This also means playing a lot less games.

But the idea is to fill it in with other activities that exercise your mind and creativity, if possible. A healthy body and healthy mind go hand in hand; one affects the other, and they feedback into each other.

So try exploring reading.
Or go to a craft store and buy a small model to build and paint.
I thought going out for live music was cool, and I'd love to go out again if you find a venue.
Hell, you may even want to try out something like gardening. You never know, you could like it.

For anything in your world to change it must all start from change within yourself. So to say, anybody can lend you help, but you must first help yourself.

And I know how you feel, Joe.
Back in the day...in 2002-2003, I was very unhappy with myself. I was 5'6" and I weighed 185lbs. I was unhappy with how I looked, and I didn't physically feel good either. So I said "Well, I'm sick of it, so I'm going to do something about it"

I made an exercise routine for myself to do once a week, adopted a new diet (stopped with soda and fastfood, it helps more than you'd imagine), and most importantly stayed consistent with it. When I started out, I couldn't even run halfway around my block before I was winded and wheezing. Before the year was over I was running from my house, to the bank, and back.

I know a lot of this sounds general, but, I say it all because I think you can do it. :)

Believe in me who believes in you! :P
