I finally got cable internet! I am so happy! No more dial-up! EVER!
David finally figured out that we couldn't get DSL through ANY provider, but we could get wireless, satellite, or cable internet. I knew there had been cable in the house at one time so we went for the cable internet... turns out they haven't had the cable on in 10 years and needed to have a new wire installed. I got it put in yesterday. It's faster than anything I've ever been on. DSL runs at a max of 10 Mbps and Cable runs at a max of 100 Mbps. 10 times faster! We clocked it last night and I get about 400 KB/s down and 70 KB/s up. It's awesome. I think I'm in love.
I'm really excited about the trip to Santa Fe. We've both been saving up for about 4 months now. I can't wait! I finally got all the Anne Rice books I've been wanting too, all the newest ones: Merrick, Blackwood Farm, and Blood Canticle. I finished Merrick in like 2-3 days. Lol. I couldn't get enough of it. I'm about 150 pgs. into Blackwood Farm now. It's kind of a cross between The Witching Hour/Lasher and The Tale of the Body Theif... pretty weird. Merrick was really cool though, it brought together the Mayfair Witch Chronicles and the Vampire Chronicles for the first time. I love Anne Rice's little world.
David and I had a pretty good weekend, we went to the Flea Market and just looked around all day, they'd opened a computer place in there since we'd been in last. We got 2 NICs and some RAM for CHEAP. We got a router the other day too so we can network our computers on the cable. We've been thinking about building a server too for the hell of it. Could be fun... or frustrating, I haven't decided yet.
The PS/2 is crapping out on us, it keeps on giving disc read errors, even on new discs. It pisses me off. We've taken it apart and I tried to calibrate the drive, that worked for a couple of days, but every once in awhile it would still give the error. Now it won't read anything. Guess I'll take it apart again and see what I can do. Guess I got my money's worth though... I bought it used from Hastings for like $109 for David for X-Mas. Just wish we could play all the games we bought. :(
School's going good. I think I have an A and a B right now... not bad. I have a final Thursday... don't think it will be that hard. In case you're wondering, 2 of my classes go together and are only 1/2 a semester long. No one in there talks to me though, guess it's because I'm the youngest in all my classes and the only girl. Oh well... the majority of the guys in both my classes are about 25-40. I thought AC was going to be like Tech… just a bunch of college kids not knowing what was going on. Nope, I didn’t realize that the continuing education people are thrown in with us, and in my case, they’re the majority of the people in my classes.
I'm still on my diet and things are going pretty good... I can tell I've lost weight now, but I'm not sure how much. I still need to buy a scale for the house. ; }~ I'm hoping I'll be able to loose about 50 lbs by the time I go on the cruise with my family in June. That would be awesome, just shock the hell out of them. I think the only people that know I'm on a diet in my family are my Poppy, Mimi, and Doyl.
Doyl (my step-grandfather who's married to my Mimi... who I work for) went psycho again this weekend. Every once in awhile, for whatever reason, normally because he forgot to take his medication or he's drunk (he's a recovering alcoholic), he goes completely insane. For instance: on time him, my Mimi, and my parents were at a Tech football game in Lubbock, there's a rule that you can't smoke in the stands (I mean, hey, it's a public place) and Doyl lights up a cigarette. Well, this guy in front of Doyl turns around and kindly asks if he can put out his cigarette because smoking isn't allowed in the stadium, Doyl says OK and waits for the guy to turn around, then he puts the cigarette out on his back. Needless to say, the police escorted him out of the game. Another time, whenever it was cold this winter, my grandmother brought in some firewood for their sitting room (where the TV is) so they could save a little on gas if they needed to. It had been sitting inside the house, by the door for a couple of days and Doyl came home one night, apparently either drunk or off his meds and starts "inspecting" the wood, he started screaming about how there were termites and they were going to eat the house or something and took like 6 big logs and threw them in the fireplace. He lit this HUGE fire to kill the termites... it was so big that it was still blazing in the morning. It actually got so hot in there, it blistered the paint on the metal part of the fireplace.
Anyways, last week I had let David borrow the pick-up truck (a company vehicle... although it's not in the company's name, but my grandmother's) to run some errands for me. I had been driving it since my car was in the shop... again. Anyways, my grandmother finds out about it and sits down with me and has a "talk" about how David can't drive it. I said okay, and that I was sorry and things were done with. I explained what happened and why I did it and that I didn't think she'd mind. Turns out I was wrong. Well, Doyl calls the house on Saturday morning at like 8:30... waking me up... and asks if I had permission to take the truck (apparently he ws at the office and noticed my car and the truck weren't there... I guess he didn't know my car was in the shop) and I said yes. They he went on this rant about how David was manipulating my grandmother and was stealing the truck, and he was living at Tanglewood without permission (which neither were true) and all this other crap. He said that he'd be at the office and David needed to be there to have a talk with him at 2:00 and that Mimi was really upset about everything and he couldn't stand to see her that way and that it wasn't right.
I thought that was really weird because Mimi's the kind of person that will tell you if something's wrong... no matter what. If she's unhappy you know... immediately. So, I thought that she was just so upset that she had to have Doyl say something. So I cried for about 3 hours straight (enough to make myself sick) and we took David's stuff to his car so incase he had to leave for Levelland. I was SOOO afraid he was going to have to leave, then I was afraid that he was going to say I needed to leave to.
Well, David said I needed to call Mimi and talk to her myself, because it really wasn't any of Doyl's business. So, I called her and she just said that she wasn't mad and we'd talked about it and it was okay now and that Doyl was off his meds again. She said not to go to the office NO MATTER WHAT and that she'd meet him there and have a little talk with him.
So, yah, that had me REALLY upset for about 1/2 a day, but the rest of the weekend was good. Doyl still hasn't apologized for anything that he did and I've been avoiding him as much as possible. He's going a little too far....
