1. I went to a party/show sponsored by the Filipino-American students' association here (I didn't even know there was one!). I filled up on rice, lumpia, adobo, afritada, pansit, and cake. Also, watched a cotillon, tinikling, singkil, pandanggo, and some modern stuff. Oh, and that dance where guys wear coconuts and beat on them. All for the bargain price of $5. Yey :)
2. I was channel-surfing earlier, and came across this absolutely amazing performer. He was young, grungy-looking, pounding on a piano, accompanied by two middle aged men, one on drums and another on bass. He was amazing. I'm not one for random concerts on late night TV, but I couldn't stop watching. He did some fiery original songs, and ended with "I Could Have Danced All Night," only he made it sound cool. When it was all over, I acted all dumb like I did after reading Phantom and just sat down and kept clapping and clapping, even though I was all alone in the room. Anyway, I thought I discovered something no one else knew about, but it turns out he's famous and I'm just clueless about music. But really, his energy was amazing. I love good live intimate performances (don't have much fun at big concerts anymore). I need to get me to a piano bar sometime soon.
Here's the TV show I watched (I didn't see the part with Lyle Lovett, just Jamie Cullum)
