Signs of the Times

Today was ENG 101 Tuesday. Waking up for only one class is great because it allows me to get up, have one class, and then have the rest of the day to do whatever I want to. With the rest of today I decided to do work. In the morning I did my Spanish grammar work then I went to lunch with the usual Ben and Matt- two characters which I have not yet spoken of but do astonishly admire.

Ben is a Business Finance Major. He is strong willed and has a strong sense of character. He has a very nice girlfriend who goes by the name of Rachel. I have the highest respect for Ben even though I've only known him for roughly a month. Him and I have hit it off well and have become good friends. He is charming and works with people well. He works for KUTCO selling knives and has now moved to the position of manager.

On the other hand, Matt is the complete opposite of Ben and I. He is shy and mostly stays in his room. I like the kid. He's smart and interesting, but he's the kind of kid you have to make a big effort to get to know, and so I have. I always invite him to eat with the group. He's studying computer science.

My roommate has still to do his laundry. I think this is now DAY 21. I do my laundry every Thursday after English 101. He's the best messy roommate I've ever had because he keeps all his crap on his side. He plays Rugby and that is about it for him and activities at Canisius. Rugby does take up much of his time here at Canisius but I see it as a front for drinking large intoxicating amounts of alcohol. He drinks and smokes. We've got a humador in the room. Apparently a humador is a box that keeps cigars fresh. I still have yet to smoke or drink.

Jennifer from the NY TIMES called me back today. The interview went on for fifteen minutes until she began breaking up. She was breaking up because she was traveling on a train that at some points had no signal. So, as convenient as it was, she called me while I was in line at the Dining Room. Here I am getting my food and doing an interview with the NY TIMES. It was rather comical to me or dorky from the perspectives of others. The reporter was doing an article on young New Yorkers traveling to swing states to make a difference in the Presidential Election. We scheduled a photo-op with other Canisius College Republicans at 2:30 P.M. I think I'll be quoted in the story but I dont think my picture will be in the paper. The article is expected to come out on Thursday. So BUY a NY TIMES on Thursday because Daniel R. Aikin has a good chance of being in it.

The traveling Saturdays experience continues with a trip to Erie, PA to help the re-election efforts of the President or to the McQuaid Invitational in Rochester. I really want to see Starpoint race but I do need to go PA. I'm not sure what I will do. I have a day to decide.

Grandma sent me a second letter. This was surprising. Hopefully, it may begin a series of letters in the future. I would enjoy it very much. In my previous letter to her I had stated that the women at Canisius were very nice and that I would be attending a protest rally against Michael Moore. Now, in reply to my letter she told me to be careful at those rallys with all those nuts and that she was happy I was finally beginning to notice women. She acted as if I had never spoken to the female part of the human species except for my sister, my mother, and her. I talk to a lot of women - right.
