Seeing art with my own eyes, not through a reproduction always creates more surprise and awe. Different things appeal or catch my attention. These days, rather than trying to see and appreciate and absorb everything, I focus on enjoying what I enjoy. It makes for more memorable gallery and museum visits.
The Bar at the Moulin Rouge, the most featured painting at the Courtauld this summer, is a beautiful, accomplished and quite mysterious painting. I had never before appreciated how exquisite the bowl of Clementines were. Even in my photo they seem quite three dimensional.
