I shall be home in 3 weeks, which means I leave here in less than 3 weeks. Which suddenly seems very close, although Mr A did the math and pointed out I still have a quarter of my holiday to go.
Time is very relative on holiday. More so than at other times.
Had a lovely lunch out on Thursday at
The Orchard Room, a cafe affiliated with a specialist plant nursery (they win gold at Chelsea for their woodland and herbaceous border plants). The food is delicious and, as the grow most of it themselves, it has pretty much zero food miles. We dined while looking out at the chickens in the orchard. If you ever get here, have the lemon sponge with home made lemon curd.
Have completed the knitting of Mr A's jumper (aka 'sweater') and only have to put it together. I am picking up stitches and doing a 3 needle bind off so its a bit more complex than usual. Thus it requires concentration and isn't something I can do at social knitting occasions. To keep myself sane, I bought the yarn for my next knitting project - on sale, which is even better. It's a silk-cotton tweedy yarn in a turquoisey blue. Better yet it's aran weight (approx. 10 ply) and is knitted on 6mm needles. For the non-knitters that's big needles which makes for very quick knitting. Part of the afternoon and evening produced my first sleeve. I already love this project! Time slowed while I knitted today. Subjectively, this afternoon was longer than all of yesterday. In a good way. The knitting went fast, but time passed at a leisurely amble.
Pub dinner with the Host Family Robinson. Although I live in their house, I've done very little socialising this year as we've all been busy about our various affairs. Mrs Host tried to twist my arm into staying on a bit longer. I was tempted, but I won't this year. I've booked my airport hotels for the trip back so that's it as far as I'm concerned. The evening flew by and I can't believe its nearly midnight.
The weather has been ordinary: overcast and a bit sticky, but chilly too in the early morning and evening. The type of weather that makes you feel heavy and sleepy, and in which you take your light summer jumper off because you're too hot. Then put it back on 15 minutes later because you're a bit cold. Then take it off again 15 minutes later (lather, rinse and repeat).
