The main focus of my drive out with K was Kersey, a traditional
East Anglian Wool Towns Kersey is a very quiet village today, not as big as nearby Lavenham, but not as touristy either.
The
Old Drift House, a self-catering cottage, which my friend K thinks I should hire next year. After all, it does have a baby grand in the living room... The cottage featured in the long-running BBC drama
Lovejoy.
The pub - not open when I came through.
The church, St Mary's.
The charmingly carved lych gate.
Detail of the carving on the lych gate.
A lion corbel on St Mary's church. The church is at the top of the hill, so he is a bit weathered.
A German C16th lecturn. The base was probably originally on another lecturn.
A close up of the delicate carving on the lecturn.
A carved coffer - simple but lovely - one of several in the church.
A reconstructed pargetted ceiling in the church.
Another view of the ceiling, with a lovely lion head boss in the middle.
Some sculpture from the interior of the church.
A corbel - possibly a reconstruction? In notably better shape than much of the other sculpture.
A fifteenth century altar frontal depicting Christian Kings. Was it in a glass case? No, it was leaning against a wall in the chapel.
A closer view of two of the Kings. The chap on the right is probably St Edmund.
The second pair of Kings.
The third pair of kings.
A closeup of one of the kinds. The detail was delicate and lovely.
