The Rhythm
There's rhythm in the way you walk
There's a rhythm in the way you talk
There's a rhythm in everything in you do,
But there ain't no love in you.
And there IS a rhythm in human socialization - in the way people are able to relate to one another. Part of the recipe includes apparent feelings of empathy, but that's just a small part. The secret ingredient is GENUINE ENTHUSIASM. Or at least the ability to genuinely fake it. Team Camaraderie and spirit.
Excitement! Loud and proud.
The ability to say what they want, what your partners want to hear, what they need and make them believe that you care about the trivialities. The ability to shout out what others desire enables them to fully believe that YOU believe in the anthem.
The rhyme equals the reason. The shout encompasses the sum.
It doesn't matter how cheesy the cheer is, or how corny the exuberance - it brings all of us (them) together. And people either keep in beat with the rhythm, and to be fair, there's a wide range of beats that allow a person to stay in sync. You can be different but still acceptable. There's a certain measure of forgiveness.
However, if there is one whose beat is just a tiny fraction off, just enough that it doesn't keep up enough with the rhythm-- that person is forever gone until he/she learns and commits to the others.
And so- that person will be completely misunderstood and unsolved until he/she resolves to either fake it or force it. Schizophrenia, borderline, social anxiety, sociopath my ass.
I think my inability to commit to the rhythm is why I always hated summer camp, high school or college clubs, sports, etc.; as a kid, since preschool I have struggled to find companionship and people to relate to, and why forevermore I will never easily fit in and be with other people even though I desparately want to... at times.
I HATED SUMMER CAMP AND I WILL NOT SING THEIR CORNY SONGS.
