We All Need A Place That We Can Go..

Just for the record, my favorite thing to do in the whole wide world is to stroll around either my neighborhood or the beach at 2am with my headphones on. I can really absorb music that way. Every time I can get a new record, that is my ritual. I love every second of it. Alone with my thoughts, free to feel. Free to either smile warmheartedly or break into a million pieces. That's my time. Alone in the sad, brown night with the music I love. You should try it sometime. It's really beautiful. For me, it is cathartic, therapeutic and, as I said earlier, my absolute favorite thing.

Speaking of music I love, I bought "Astral Weeks" for probably the 8th time in my life the other day. Even after all these years, every time I listen to it it feels like the first time. It's absolutely mesmerizing. It is exquisite songwriting. A near perfect abstract soul record. There are hundreds of different nuances that color the record and it is still as heartfelt and soulful of an album as I have ever heard. I have a hard time listening to it without getting teary-eyed. "Could you find me? Would you kiss my eyes.. lay me down.. to be born again." My God. Van Morrison is a treasure of song. He should be declared as a Deity. "Astral Weeks" and Joni Mitchell's "Blue" will always be the two records that will inevitably make me cry, although there are also moments on Dylan's "Blood On The Tracks" that come close.

Also, I gotta say, I really love the Amos Lee record. That kid is soulful. South Philly's own. Who knew?
