i did it! I got eight whole, more-or-less consecutive hours of sleep last night!--first time in I don't know how long. It happen'd from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., but otherwise it was blessedly normal. My other cat, Katzo, slept beside me, as close as he could manage. His modus operandi is to be close to th humans @ all times and to let th humans hug him, step on his head, trick him into running into walls, put glasses on him, do whatever they want w/ him--it's th opposite of Kevin Shields. While I was down for th count, Lakers beat Jazz; Chinese earthquake body count eclipsed 20,000; a Will Arnett sex tape got leaked to th Internet; my Board Chairman Andy O. left me a voicemail msg wanting to talk about cardiac geography; my BFF Eran discovered, heartbreakingly--and months after th fact--that Pimp C is dead; and a representative of el jay named Marta sent me a letter that began

Dear LiveJournal user lostcosmonaut,

You have been nominated to run for one of two positions reserved for LiveJournal users on the LiveJournal, Inc. Advisory Board. This position will require one in-person meeting in Istanbul per year.

I don't know what else is happening in th world; I don't know anything about anything, only stuff that happens to my friends and family, and whatever my friends and family talk about. Today one of my clients lent me a book to read on th plane; its title is Sick Puppy. I ask her,

"Is it about dogs?"
"Sort of, but not really, but sort of?" she says.
"Well, as long as there are dogs of some kind in there."
"It's really funny, though, and the guy's train of thought, it reminded me a little of you."
"Oh! Ha ha! Cool! I'm glad you are lending me this right before my trip, because planes are th only place I read."
"Really? I would've thought you were a reader."
"Nah. You know that book about dogs you let me borrow last year? Thet was th only book ah read all year."
"Really? I thought you were into books and didn't watch TV."
"I don't watch TV, and I don't read books!" And I am changing th topic before you can ask me what it is that I do do!

I do travel through time, like everybody else. Tomorrow I flew to Arizona, where one of th biggest skies in America resides. Yesterday I am not planning to go to sleep @ 8:00 p.m. Today I thanked everybody who seconded my nomination in th el jay primaries. "Thank you for getting my username on th ballot," I said. "W/o yr support, I would have been exactly as happy today as I am today!--and tomorrow, and yesterday--pretty happy, all in all--but my username would not be on th ballot."

I continued: "A special salamat hoez must go to disorganization, piedpiper, vogdoid, wring, torrential, and odobenidae, who campaigned vigorously on my username's behalf. Also to mittenstone, who roped all his Mexican 'brothers' and 'sisters' and 'cousins' into th voting booth."

Next episode: el jay told me to write a stump speech, so I wrote a stump speech.

This episode: since I don't know anything w/o you, I asked you: "What makes a good stump speech? What is happening in el jay's future that makes you happy?"
