Mystery.

Mystery and really just anything unknown make for some of the most amazing things. When things happen, and we don't know the reason why, they have a much more severe impact. An animal that's never met you before approaches you and is friendly and you're touched. You look at the sky when the rays of the sun blast through the clouds to make those ethereal heaven-like images and you're blown away by beauty. A loved one gets cancer and you wonder what you did to call down some divine punishment. A lover breaks your heart out of the blue and you're crushed beyond recognition.

In life we generaly have 3 things going on, actions, thoughts, and emotions. When something entirely unexplainable happens, our thoughts get shut off because there are just no thoughts to explain it, at least not immediately. However it's not like a part of your brain shuts down, it's just that there is more available space on the hard drive that is your mind and your emotions and actions fill the gaps. Explaining irrational behavior in the face of misunderstandings. Explaining such intense feelings from the mysteries around us.

Without a mystery most things would just exist as a cold, clear fact. While there's a comfort to that, you lose the excitement. Imagine if we knew for a fact what happened when we died. You've now lost the hope that some people find in a heaven, the fear that people have of hell, the fear of being forgotten. Depending on the answer, you may have just taken the definition out of life itself. When was the last time you were astounded by how really cool a sheet of paper was? You know it's just a chopped up treated tree, where's the fun in that?

So I say, that even in my pursuit of knowledge, I don't know want to know all that much, have all that much explained. The Northern Lights? I hope I never know about it, cause right now it's just a mysterious beauty that I can't define, just be impressed by.

Things like that? Those simple appreciations? I like that.
