Ok, i just saw the movie Twilight and i think i've become slightly more fond of and obsessed with the Twilight world and the Cullens. My coworker JP has been converting me to reading YA novels and I eventually got into the Twilight series, among others. After long discussions with my girlfriend who was baffled with my infatuation, I found out that I mainly like the Twilight series because of the chivalry. I don't care that the book is slightly preachy about abstinence and is super chicky at times, what with Bella and Edward always gushing over each other and being so fatalistic about their love. Maybe I have a shining knight fantasy or something but the Edward/Bella relationship takes me back to my early school days when I not only dreamed of having a perfect girlfriend, but a passionate undying bond with that person. I know it's SO damn tacky, but I'm just a dreamer like that. Anyway, Twilight had great casting for pretty much every character. Kristen Stewart was hot in a plain-Jane kind of way, and she had just the right amount of social awkwardness and clumsiness. Robert Pattinson's hair wasn't what I imagined when reading the book, but that didn't hurt his performance at all. The rest of the Cullen family were super-cool, especially Alice. I think the movie version of Jaspar is growing on me, despite his weird hair. I was NOT expecting Emmet to be so hip-hop, but it's kinda funny in a good way. Rosalie was not as hot as I was hoping for, but her attitude was right. Carlyle was definitely a little young-looking to me even if he was meant to be in the book (and he looks too much like a blonde Tom Cruise for my taste). Esme was ok i guess, but I thought James, Victoria, and the other guy were somewhat less impressive. Especially James! His performance was WAY less scary than I hoped, and he looks like some dork I might have gone to high school with or some shit. Anyway. The other peeps I went to the movie with were slightly disappointed because it cut out parts of the book, but I think they're expecting far too much from a motion picture. Chicks. Psshh. I'm probably biased though--I'm the type of fan that will overlook some flaws because I enjoy the overall appeal of something too much. I don't show this side of me much... but Twilight is the kind of movie (and book) that brings out an optimism and innocence in me that I'm glad I still have and still appreciate. The supernatural "X-men"-style action doesn't hurt either.
PS. As far as the soundtrack goes, JP and I still feel adamant about Muse-T.I.R.O. as a must-have track in the soundtrack... Just our opinion.
