I like eljay quite a lot, but it is just a poster, so reading and commenting has to be done through the web. A client for reading and commenting without having to wait for big webpages to load would be a real boon. Even better would be an off-line reader, that would let me download my friends page and read it somewhere I don't have a data connection, like a plane, then upload comments when I have a data connection again, could really make a big difference to my LJ usage.
As a posting utility, eljay is pretty good. It let's you choose pretty much all of the options the web client does, though the usericons are hidden in a menu. I did have a couple of crashes, I think because I started typing before the toolbar finished loading.
All the others I've found so far are less fully featured, so eljay is top of the heap for the moment.
