STOMP

Teresa and I went to Opening Night of STOMP at the Pantages last night.  This is a show I have wanted to see for over a decade and I am happy to say that it surpassed my expectations.

I was a little apprehensive about the noise level and hoping for the best with our seats.

Is STOMP loud?  Yes.  It's also surprisingly quiet at times.  The props they use to create the sounds range anywhere from boxes of matches to plastic bags to plastic tubs and many more besides.  I left the theater feeling like I wasn't having nearly enough fun with my trash and workplace supplies.

Should you venture to say there is a plot, I would say it is this:  working class people (there are two females and 6 males) who are possibly janitors that play around a lot when they are on break.  The show has no words but sounds abound.  There is the picked on one, the leader, the cool guy, the pretty boy, the sexy woman, etc.  Everyone has a distinct personality and I'm at a loss to decide if the grumpy leader or the court jester of the crew was my favorite.

There is plenty of crowd participation, so be prepared to clap and stomp on command.  Also, be wary of making noise out of turn.  If the people on stage don't glare at you, the person sitting next to you certainly will.

STOMP is a beautiful cross between dance and percussion.  These eight performers are sweating their hearts out for your entertainment and will still come back and perform an encore if they feel the love from the audience.

I ordered our tickets through Goldstar and for less than $35 we had center Mezzanine tickets only five rows back.  We couldn't have asked for better seats.  I am quickly becoming a huge fan of this site and buy about 80% of my entertainment tickets through them.  So if you're wondering how I can go to the theater so often, the answer is Goldstar.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention how funny this show is to watch.  I cannot tell you how many times I was cracking up at their antics and amazed at what they could project up to the balcony with their body language alone.

If you have a chance, I highly recommend checking it out while it's in town.  It's only here until Feb 7th, so hurry up and get your tickets now!
