Holy Shit.
So, at the end of February the Wind Ensemble of Texas A&M Commerce is performing at a national convention called CBDNA (College Band Directors National Association). To mark this special occasion, over a year ago Dr. Gershman hired a guy (Jonathan Newman) to write a BRAND NEW song for us to play. We're talking literally WORLD PREMIER of this piece. No one has every heard it before. No one has ever played it before. There are no recordings of it. Nothing. We are the first. Anybody wanna take a wild guess how it starts? Me. I play a six measure solo. By myself. No one else. No one playing whole notes underneath. Not even conducted by Dr. Gershman. Nothing. I play a lyric solo, alone. Yeah. Holy shit.
