Why do we dream?

by Maria Clara

The perfect metaphore is a Kite.
Kites are our hopes, wishes, desires, that are always flying, away from us. These kites are connected to us by a string, and so are our wishes, desires and hopes, and that is why we hold on to them. We "catch" them, and now follows a great picture: Imagine a grand blue sky filled with thousands, billions of kites, flying looses arround it, all sorts of colours, shapes and sizes.Flying happilly, ignoring the billions people that gaze upon them and their beauty. All you have to do is pick the one you like, the one you believe will make you happy, and grab it´s string. There you go, you just caught a dream: Money, wealth, happiness, love, recognition, fame...you name it. You know own a dream. It might be a dream of many, might be a dream personalized just for you. You may have just one kite, or hundresds of kites. You choose, possibilities are endless, just like the power of your mind.

Now we all know humans can´t fly. Kites can. However, a kite is no good on the floor, right? So we gaze upon our kites, play with them, but never get close to them. Why? Because it´s what we believe can make us happy. Get the picture? What makes you happy is flying in the sky and you are attached to the ground. The only thing holding both of you is a string.

If a dream is just a dream, then that kite will always be there: forever beautiful, forever unreachable. However, when you put deadlines and objectives to your dreams, they become goals. And a goal is easier to reach then a dream because a goal is adaptable. We may never get to our dreams, but we may get closer to them, through goals.

Now here´s how it works: You do your part of the job, and if it is of luck or fate, you will pull that string, and bring the kite closer to you. If you reach your dream, 100%, then you get to bring your kite to the floor, and gaze upon it. Then, you´ll give back to the sky, thank it, and let the kite loose for someone else, and choose another dream. It´s the kite cycle.

Most of the times, you are not that lucky, and may not get the kite so close to you, but you can bring it close enough for you to touch it, a touch of grace. And that will also feel great. You may choose to let go of that kite, or focus on other kites. The point is that when you have the "touch of grace" you touched a dream, and that glitch makes you so happy that you feel satisfyed (if you are a smart person ofcoarse. If you never feel satysfied by what you do or what life brings to you, then you are bounded to check the sky forever, and never approach any kite, ever. Kindda sad.).

So, let´s review: Dreams are like kites loose in the sky, the string is the way that allows you to bring the kite closer to you, and strings work through goals, one pull at a time, untill you get your dream, or not. Since one man can dream so many diferent things, we are always finding new dreams. If your dream is considered to be...well, kindda insane (like living a princess tale with a hollywood star) take a sec to think about it. It´s a dream that id just fun to gaze upon, no need to pull the string.
And thus we label dreams, and choose which ones we want to happen. It´s all about choices: To leave dreams in the sky or try to bring them closer to you.

Bottom line is: Gaze at the kites, pick a few to pull, and do your part. The rest is not up to you. But never think that it´s never up to you, because it is, even in the smallest detail. And never give up to dream, to try and to do.
