Here's a new icon tutorial I made.

We're gonna learn how to go from
to

1. crop your image, resize it as you like and make a 100 x 100 base. I used this image of Alexis Bledel photoshoot, croped it and resized it. Here's my base:

2. Now, we're going to make an outline around Alexis Bledel. Erase the background with the "background eraser" tool.

3. Open a new 100 x 100 background and fill it with a white color (or the color you want the outline to be), then copy your base (with background erased previously) and paste it on this new white background (or the color you chose), like this:

4. Go to selections >> modify >> expand. Choose the number of pixels, depending on how thick you want the outline. I chose 2 pixels:

6. Open a new 100 x 100 white background (again!) and copy ans paste this texture from Peachinparis on the new background:

7. Then, copy your outlined figure and paste it as a new layer on this background with the texture, like this:

8. We're now going to desaturate the layer. Go to adjust >> Hue and Saturation >> Hue/Saturation/Lightness (or press shift+H). Set the adjustments like this (or play around as you like):

9. Create a new raster layer. Fill with a darkish blue colour (#071e8f) and set on exclusion around 50%. (Again, play around as you like) You should get something like this:

10. Finally, use the pen tool to frame the whole base (or use a brush if you have one) in white (or any color that you choose):

11. use a text brush. I used this "Captured" one:

And you're done!
