Maybe Faraday wasn't the variable, but Juliet was. Her being a BAMF at the end and setting up the bomb, ahem, might have changed things in favor of the Losties and Jacob's people.
Seems too easy to assume the bomb blowing up was the incident in the past to begin with and they're just setting themselves up to loop in their predestination paradox times on/off the island. While I think that is what is going to happen, I don't want that to happen. I want their efforts to be for something. Hell, a lot of awesome people have died.
