Yesterday was spent on a distinct (atleast for me) amount of travel, much celluloid viewing pleasure, and the return of the taqueria. Upon picking up my erstwhile co-conspirator we decided to ambush the baby daddy of darkness in his lair. And we grabbed Sid. From there we proceeded to soak-up burritos and Sin City. And we got to see a rather large specimen of humanity in pulmenary distress, as we passed by the Hot Topic of all things. Its like a car wreck, you're a son of a bitch for looking and lying to yourself if you don't. Of course we stopped, if only briefly, and I at least made some such snide comment so you can tell that I'm definately a looker. Shit like this is why I never became an eagle scout. Go figure. Now that I've spent a paragraph on digression I'll kindly move on.
Sin City was worth it. The snob in me wanted to deride the ridiculousness of it but I just couldn't. It was too much fun. The action fit, it was dead on. The movie really was a walking talking comic book with all of its acompanying highs and lows. It was certainly the most faithful rendition I've seen of a comic artists work. It pushed the envelope of over the top action while remaining serious. But it also had a vast number of hilarious moments that didn't kill the mood. Even Mickey Rourke's prosthetic chin couldn't hold this one back.
We followed up Sin City by getting rather bored, but only for a little while. Apparently tow people can stave off long term boredom better than six can. And we got sick of Tai Chi Master. Fortunately laundry saved us. Yes laundry. Which led into another two movies for the evening. I finally got to see Spun, one of the least glamorous movies about drugs that I've seen. No, really, everyone in the film begins rather fucked-up and they only get progressively worse. Its chock full of fun actors, but it isn't about the characters. They're all just nervy bundles of addiction. Thats not a complaint, I enjoyed the movie. But its about being so caught up in what you doing that it consumes you.
Finally, to round out the evening we watched Butterfly Effect, which was far better than what I'd ever have suspected. Its smart, its grim, and its purely concept driven. I thought it was great. Well enough rambling for now. I'll just leave off with this thought, Good company should always be sought after and cherished when found. Thanks for another fantastic time.
