Title: Happy Endings 9: Remnants
Author:
lost_spook
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 7775
Summary: Defeat the monster, get held for questioning the morning after. Adam Colby wants to find the dog and move on, but UNIT, Torchwood and the local police are still far more interested in what happened at Fetch Priory. Luckily, Leela stayed with the Tylers and she's on hand to help.

Well, I said you'd be safe from this one for a while: sorry. I was meant to be writing other fic today (I was allowing myself that), but I couldn't help myself typing this up. I enjoyed writing it a ridiculous amount and am dancing for glee at having finished and posted it. Whether anyone else will like it, who knows? I suspect I'm being far too obscure for my own good. (Erm. Yay for minor Classic Who characters?)

Firstly, hopefully I've not made any blunders (I am new to this story), but About Time 4 was helpful, including about some aspects I couldn't fit in this. I did end up watching it with one eye out for Leela's next candidate, but wasn't sure there would be one, because Colby and Thea look pretty close in all the pics I've seen from it, but actually the story allows for this (and the cast were very helpful!!). And once I worked out that obviously, you can't blow up a scientific establishment in the 1970s without bringing in UNIT and that the Priory, being a strangely shippy scientific establishment by a time fissure.... well, Torchwood came, too. And it's 1977, so (depending on your views on UNIT dating. No, not that sort of dating. Behave) the Brigadier's retired and handed over to Colonel Crichton. I went and rewatched the scene from the Five Doctors and the poor man is given almost no character whatsever (and even seems to swap characters with the sergeant once the Brig and the Doctor head out the door), but I've done my best. The glee is because it might finally make another story of mine work and I'm almost tempted to do the nonAU version of this.

I suppose the other thing is that, compared to the others, it was like writing a normal relationship for Leela.  It's hard work getting Litefoot and Jago to propose and not altogether easy to pull Poul back to his self, but this one really made sense.  And there's a lot in this story that doesn't quite get quite fleshed out - I can see why Chris Boucher apparently is frustrated by the state of the script.  But that sort of thing just asks for fan fic.  And here its...

It is completely spoilery if you haven't seen Image of the Fendahl, but on the other hand, if you don't mind spoilers, it is mainly a story in its own right. Shouldn't be too baffling, I hope.

Anyway, that's quite enough. At some point it'll turn up on Teaspoon.

fannish scribbles, adam colby, colonel crichton, leela, unit, doctor who, torchwood
