A Prison Within a Prison

TAG: MORPHEUS
CONTINUED FROM HERE
Smith and the twelve other Agents had "borrowed" four NYPD police cars from outside the Grand Central Terminal and driven through downtown, all sirens blaring. Although the call from Agent Pace had caught him slightly off guard, Agent Smith had been waiting and preparing for that moment for two weeks now. And as ( Read more... )

Morpheus shuffled through the building quietly under the strict surveilance of Smith and the others. He had not even known of the WTC's demise until he viewed it, and then he knew everything up to and including the 'renovations'. Smith was taking no risks this time. Indeed, he was being led down instead of up and the security seemed virtually uncrackable. A miracle would be needed to get him out of here this time, and Morpheus was beginning to wonder just how many miracles he had left in him. Certainly Neo could get him out of here, but could he do it before Smith could pull the trigger ( ... )

Smith raged to see Morpheus' defiant attitude but he was in control, now. He also knew that Morpheus' rebel friends would sooner or later try to take him away -- but they would arrive too late.

As the six Agents finished tying Morpheus down to the chair, they quietly stood back, along with the three soldiers. Smith approached closer to Morpheus and was about to talk when he swiflty turned his head around.

"What are you staring at?" he yelled. "Get out of here. Bring me the workstation and the syringe."

As the Agents and soldiers left the vault, Smith looked back down at Morpheus and removed his earpiece and sunglasses.

"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my second time here," Smith started calmly, clearly pronouncing each syllable. "I can't get out, Morpheus. It seems that I just can't! Something happened. We were just a few minutes away from throwing Zion back into oblivion. And then something happened. Something that reloaded the Matrix again. Something that forced me to re-enter the Matrix but from the back ( ... )

Morpheus looked back towards the ground so that Smith would not be able to so easily read his expression. He did not move even to test the strength of his bonds. There was no point at the moment; all he would do is prove to himself the futility in attempting to break them. Even if he did break them, there was no escape at the moment and they would be replaced with yet stronger bonds for his efforts. No, it would be entirely counterproductive to test them now. It would not be his belief in their inability to break that stopped him later. If anything, he would focus his belief on their capacity to be broken while he had the chance before any rescue attempts made it to him ( ... )

"What do you mean by..." Smith yelled at Morpheus before freezing in mid-sentence. He felt as if the very words pronounced by Morpheus had carried information themselves, as if the story of Zion's survival was somewhere in the code that made up the sound of these words. His mouth still open, his eyes frantically searching Morpheus' face for any hint of a lie or a deception, Smith took a step back.

They've made peace...The mere thought of such an incongruous concept could hardly make sense for Smith. But it explained why the Agents didn't try to capture or even noticed Morpheus earlier that day, in the Grand Central Terminal. It explained why everything in the Matrix code was so different, geared towards peaceful cohabitation rather than warmongering. It explained why the Agent programme seemed to have been re-written with a defensive rather than aggressive, proactive purpose. It explained why his own code, although similar to the new Agent programme code, was not allowed to access Zero One's mainframe, which carefully filtered and ( ... )
