James,
It's wonderful to hear of Harry's safe arrival. Congratulations to you and Lily. I'm enclosing a small gift. It is not charmed, but I assure you it will keep the child warm--the people here know something about the cold.
Sirius and I had a short visit a few months ago. He appeared drawn and preoccupied, as I suppose you all must. However, he displayed the old enthusiasm for firewhiskey, and for the first time in months I had company during the most difficult night of the month. I was sorry to see him go, and look forward to the day when we four celebrate our reunion. At Dumbledore's behest I am forming no close attachments here.
I understand that things are difficult, that the war makes you say hard things now. I'm grateful to you for standing by me as we grew up together, and I admit to still reaching for that connection, isolated as I am here. But news of Harry's birth reminds me that I ought to get on with things in Ushuaia and let you get on building your life with Lily and working for good.
Our training centre has come a long way over the summer and I'm now holding regular sessions with some older children, as word slowly gets around about this new wizarding facility in South America. I've even acquired a briefcase with my name stamped on it, a fact that will no doubt amuse the lot of you when I see you next.
Write when you can.
yours,
Remus
