The sky's painted black over the grass dark green,
And two lovers lie lovemaking in between.
Forever is sworn amidst sighs and cries,
As innocence knows not that innocence dies.
Her stomach grows: she eats less.
Her womb swells: she eats more.
He becomes busier,
And is less often seen coming in her door.
Her angry mother holds her hand
And plays the part played by the man:
To squeeze the babe from its home in the womb
And bury it to life in this open tomb.
The death of innocence gave birth to the same,
But this innocence has an illegitimate name.
Instead of death, their punishment is life,
For he is not husband, and she is not wife.
The new mother empties her breast to her young,
Remembering that it was once all in good fun.
The new father left to become full-grown,
But it's now too late: his seed was sown.
The death of innocence gave birth to the same,
But this innocence has an illegitimate name.
Instead of death, their punishment is life,
For he is not husband, and she is not wife.
