I rush along after my class
With an umbrella and little time,
Passing beside a sluggish mass
Of people trudging along.
As I pass along the side of the Mall,
I come upon a passage lined with trees
Immense, they form a grand and verdant hall;
A cause to pause and dream of sun and breeze.
An overcast and drizzling sky
Wrests me from my reverie,
Recalling what I nearly forsook
I race along in misery.
I pause before the gate to look behind;
Though even rain cannot wash away
The verdant beauty, time is much too short
To take it all in, the shame of this day.
