fic: Revelations [Lost; post-finale drabble]

Jan 03, 2011 20:01

Title: Revelations
Author: whensheflies
Fandom/Pairing: LOST; Gen, Sawyer/Kate-ish.
Summary: What happened directly after the series finale of Lost.
A/N: Just a silly drabble that I started writing last May after Lost tore my heart out. I miss this show so damn much.

Frank brings the plane down in Long Beach, far enough away from LAX to not cause as big a stir as emergency landing a presumed missing plane could merit. Miles calls it a miracle that they made it in one piece, and despite the effrontery, it does little to damage Frank's already inflated ego.

The survivors part ways after almost eight hours of rigorous security questioning. It is a crossroads many of them were unprepared for. With promises to be in touch soon, Frank is on the first JetBlue flight out of the city and is gone.

Richard sees the world through new eyes, overwhelmed and for the first time in too many years to count, vulnerable. He wishes Isabella, or Alex even, were there to experience it all with him. Instead, he clings to the unexpected kindness Miles had shown him during their final hours on the island and follows behind him quite like a puppy.

"Guess that leaves just us, Freckles." Sawyer says. He does not smile. It is much too soon for smiling.

Kate looks at Sawyer, and then to Claire who stands a bit to the side looking out of place and uncomfortable in her own skin. "No," she says, "We can't leave her again. Not yet. I have to help her adjust. Aaron too. They haven't seen each other in three years."

"I guess you're right. And I wouldn't mind seeing that kid myself." Sawyer replies, "But first, I think Jungle Girl there has a date with the bathtub."

"Sawyer," Kate says, trying to sound disapproving, but she cracks a smile when she eyes poor Claire's matted and dirty hair. "Speak for yourself. I'd love a hot shower." She hails a cab and goes to help Claire.

Sawyer pauses for a moment and breathes deep, looking to the sky for absolution. He silently thanks the ones left behind, the ones who sacrificed everything for them to be there. He wouldn't squander this new chance of life and with a newfound determination, he headed towards the cab. "Right behind you, Freckles."
