fic: Revenge and Redemption, Anakin Skywalker

May 01, 2009 00:36

Title: Revenge and Redemption
Fandom;Pairing: Star Wars; hints at Anakin/Obi-Wan, but complies w/ canon
Rating: Harmless. Sadly, George Lucas owns all.
Summary: Some insight into Darth Vader. Why he is the way he is. Set after Revenge of the Sith, before A New Hope.
A/N: Star Wars was my first fandom and it deserved some of my attention. I still want to write copious amounts of Obi/Ani slash whenever I see Ewan McGregor or Hayden Christensen. So there.

Though his transformation had been great, some things remained the same for Anakin Skywalker. Space was still cold, chilling him to the bone (what little left of him that was). Childhood in the harsh and dry climate of Tatooine was nothing compared to the desolate freeze of space. Tarkin had his ship heated artificially, but the chill still ate at him. He found himself glad of his ghastly disfigurations and machinery because it meant thick black wool and a full body casing of armor.

With a reputation for striking the fear in his commanding officers by manipulating the Force for ill deeds, he was often left alone with his thoughts. On his most self-loathing days, he lets his thoughts trail back to Padme. It seems that in your anger, you… Palpatine’s words haunted him like the darkest of nightmares. He had killed the only person who loved him. His life was a nightmare, and sleep was cold comfort.

And when he grew further despondent, he allowed himself to think on his old Master. It was the memory that followed him like a spectre… that utter betrayal that fueled his continual hatred. Obi-Wan was the reason why Anakin now hid his malformed face behind the mask. He knew that the bridges between them were burned, but he could not help but remember the glory days of Master and Padawan. Things had been simpler then, and at the same time, torturously complicated. Every glance between them, every misplaced touch, and every tireless lecture all required reinterpretation. Maybe Anakin had put too much faith in Obi-Wan’s double entendres and forced self control, for they got him nothing in the end. The bitterness kept his will to survive going and he vowed to exact justice on him.

The only other thing that kept Anakin going was the sporadic flickers of energy he felt. Rarely did the Force speak to him (only he manipulated it, such were the ways of the Dark Side), but when It did, he was rendered helpless. It was his child. He felt the surge and change in the Force, the connection between father and son impregnable. He did not know where they had hid him, but only felt his presence in the universe. Sometimes closer and more strongly than others, it troubled him, but he was not allowed the simple pleasure of emotion. So Vader waited, for revenge and redemption, and knew that in time it would come.
