Just got back from my trip to LA to see my grandparents. I was afraid it would be desperately boring the entire time, and while that was partially true, I'm still glad I went. My grandmother is one of the sweetest people I know, but unfortunately her vision is pretty much gone. Luckily her brain is pretty sharp, unlike my grandfather. He is nearly deaf (and refuses to get a new hearing aid that would solve much of the problem) and so any conversation is fairly hard. He usually just throws in random unrelated sentences into everyone elses sentences, which is incredibly frustrating, and his tendency to blame everyone but himself, even in a joking way, is distressing. Anyway, i know that they appreciated seeing us so I suppose i'm willing to give up three days for that.
On the upside, we went downtown with everyone but my grandmother. Saw all the usual LA crap, including the hollywood sign and all the famous pop culture references (the key club, where my favorite pennywise album was recorded, and the places where river phoenix and john belushi died).
Most of all though, we stopped by the Disney Concert Hall. This building rang a bell as soon as i heard it (it was briefly mentioned in my ARC305 class), and i made my 'rents stop by. Its friggin' awesome. I love architecture. Frank Gehry buildings are pretty much the most out there and gorgeous structures around. Heres some pictures.
Note the mirror finish on one section of the building. Amazing.
