death is the road to awe

My life changed today.

2 years ago, I saw Requiem For A Dream, which is about 4 individuals in NY who get caught up in this cycle of drug addiction. It changed me for life - scarring me and making me just view things totally differently. I'll never forget the music, the haunting score by Clint Mansell/Kronos Quartet, or the amazing cinematography, directing...
So then I found out about The Fountain which would be his next project but so much shit happened to it (Losing $ b/c Brad Pitt dropped out, etc.) put it on hold - until Darren decided to make it into a graphic novel. Then he rewrote it, and ended up making it again with Hugh and Rachel.

First things first: The music, by Clint Mansell - played by Kronos Quartet and Mogwai - was just fucking amazing. It's a subtle and layered sound but still remains true to the whole emotional build up that Mogwai brings to everything it does. And Kronos Quartet is amazing, as well as always and Clint Mansell with the haunting piano motif is just almost orgasmic. As amazing as Lux Aeterna is, Death is the Road to Awe runs in circles around it - it's just that epic and beautiful. This is so definetely my bedtime music and art music and pretty much the soundtrack to my life ...

Ok, I've got that out of my system.

The movie. I can't really put it into words. It was beautifully filmed, with great cinematography, amazing direction, and fantastic acting (Hugh Jackman is absolutely amazing. I love him even more)...... but it kind of felt disjointed. Maybe I just didn't "get it' or something, because it's definetely very ambiguous, very abstract - but I definetely thought it was very interesting and unique even after reading the graphic novel - there were significant differences.... and in some cases that was good and bad. But I dont' even really know what to say. it's really unreal to have finally seen it after waiting for so fucking long.
Shallow moments: Holy crap - Hugh is so freaking handsome, even bald, even in a long beard, even when getting dragged into a bathtub with Rachel Weisz. Guh.

Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
