Tee hee hee. So this week has been the "week from Hell" at work. No need to explain now, I've already explained to several people and the rest of you don't want to hear about it anyway. But apparently I'm not the only one having a crappy week. This morning I went into the girl's locker room on the 3rd floor (getting on all my gear to enter the monkey rooms, that itself takes about 10 minutes...) and on one of the girl's lockers is a wipe-board. She has a countdown till Christmas on it, but today there was something new written on it, which I just found absolutely hilarious.
Of course, to appreciate it you must have an understanding of the Lab Animal Resources department (LAR). We've been having trouble getting enough clean cages to change our rodent rooms on time, which is very frustrating. And when we do have cages, we don't have any fume hoods. The mice have to be changed under fume hoods to help prevent the spread into or out of the mice cages those things which are harmful to mice (well, not pleasant for people, either, you know... pinworms, parvovirus, that stuff...) to other mice cages, etc. Also, the SOP's state that there should only be up to four mice per cage. Often the investigators forget to wean their mice, so we will sometimes have up to, oh, twelve + mice per cage. Then we have to seperate them out. Grrr.
Okay, so now that you know a bit of the background, you might be able to understand how funny I thought this little song was, to the tune of "On the 12th Day of Christmas"...
"On the first day of Christmas the LAR gave to me: one working hood...
two people's work...
three pairs of scrubs...
four rusty racks...
five mice per cage..."
And that's as far as we've gotten. :( But it was SO FUNNY. We're going to try and think of all 12 things. Anyway, just a bit of amusement to brighten my day. :)
