"Dude do you really want to have your saxophone out on THAT field?"

This Mother's Day was greeted with a throng of dudes wearing medievil style garbs that were beating the shit out of each other with swords made out of foam and fun noodles... They were pretty awesome.

I saw these guys at Lincoln Park right after I got off of work. Last week they came into my Subway, still in costume, and tipped me off into joining them some day. I guess they meet every Sunday.

Some of these people are really hardcore about the way they fight. This isn't a typical LARP where the fat guy walks up to you and tells you that he rolled a perfect score on his hit check so he hits you for such and such damage (which is bull-shit, because in real life that fat bastard wouldn't even be able to touch me if I tied my arms behind my back and blindfolded myself). These guys run up to you and fucking smack your shit with their sword. It definitely looked like fun.

One of the people there is in his eighth year with this organization. I watched him fend off a gang of five people with just his sword and his shield... Only falling victim to their assault after he gave up and let them hit him (just so he could get back on his feet...he had "lost" a leg earlier in the battle).

On the battlefield I also met Kaiza (I'll need to double-check the spelling of that). She's a french horn player at Springfield High, and her thoughts and speech just continue to "Wow!" me. I can really relate with this girl, even though this was only really my third time meeting her. Thinking back on it, I think I may have talked a bit too much in front of her today, as I tend to get carried away and eventually bore people. But...she definitely rocks, and I guess she's going to go to this thing every week as well. Between the two of us, we'll be unstoppable. =]

Maybe this sword-fighting thing will "level up" my reflexes and cheer up my demeanor (now that I'll actually have something to do on week-ends). These people are very open to welcoming newbies, and if you want to come and take a look, they meet at Lincoln Park every Sunday at 1:00. They make you sign a waiver in the off chance you really get hurt, and if you're under 18 then you need parental permission (these are the hardest-core dorks ever).

And in the end, he was really just fighting himself....
