So today on my way to Bloomington, I was listening to Molson & Lee on WMAY...for quite awhile, I may add! I was surprised to find that WMAY does have some feed in Bloomington, so they provided the best of entertainment for the ride. What were they talking about? Good Friday and emo kids.
Molson & Lee were making fun of emo kids! It was a dream come true! What this means is that a higher-generation (college age and up) media source has identified and recognized the sub-culture that is emo, and branded it fucking stupid! The DJ continued to talk about his emo son, and how he says things like, "Oh daaad, you just don't understaaaand what it's like to be a tEEnager. It's sooo harrrd." in a voice that reminded me of the goth kids from South Park (I'm amazed I could make that reference considering how little TV I watch). This was the best ten minutes of radio history.
Later, the DJ spoke of when he used to work for a sandwich shop that chatered to people and delivered right to their door...and one Good Friday when he was delivering sandwiches, an old woman had yelled at him for working between noon and 3:00 on Good Friday. He responded with a hearty, "I'm not Catholic, and I don't care!" ....At this point I called the radio station and said in the same emo-mocking voice, "Oh Molson...you just don't understaaaand what it's like to be Catholiick..." ....we had a good laugh.
My day with Cody was wonderful! There was a round of Soul Calibur, then we pestered his sister at the ice cream place of employment where we "inquired on the purchase of ice cold confectionaries."...we then went bowling, made fun of the Nevada Girl web-fad, watched "From Dusk Until Dawn", and spent a lot of time driving around downtown Bloomington.
Through this, I found out that I'm not the only person that tries to make mathematical sense of lisence plates... My example: We were sitting outside of the ice cream shop and a car pulls up...his license plate number was 766 7797. Cody then asked if I ever tried making sense of license plate numbers...I nodded, and he pointed out that if we subtracted two from the 9, and distributed the two to the 6's, then we would have even sevens accross the board. And that's exactly the kind of shit I do when I see number combinations...
That's kind of an odd habit for somebody who is so mathematically out of touch...an even stranger habit for TWO people who are so mathematically out of touch. Maybe I was born to be a code breaker, though I would probably never follow through very well on the job.
The whole Bloomington experience was just too bad ass to summarize in a blog. Needless to say, Cody is a linguistic genius that can make a mockery of anything, and a day with him is guaranteed to be entertaining.
I stopped by Melissa's when it was all said and done to witness her Jewish step-mom drinking a glass of scotch before going to bed....during Passover even. Her whole family is a riot, and methinks that ending my day there was quite the wonderful ending to quite a perfect day.
It isn't often I write blogs that focus on what I did during the day and have very little meaning behind the words... Don't worry--I'm not going to keep these kinds of blogs up for very long. =P
