Back...FINALLY!

I took a little vacation this past weekend. Just a chance to get away from my normal environment, hang out with some friends, and relax for a few days. Most of this plan worked.

I spent several days enjoying the company of friends, laughing myself into coughing fits, cooking, & seeing some amazing sights. But my travel karma still holds. Between flat tires, stupid rental companies and no internet access all weekend, you might think that would be enough. Oh no, I got to spend 28 hours getting from Point A to Point B on my way home. And where did I get stuck? Newark Liberty International Airport. THE ONE FREAKING AIRPORT IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY WHERE I DON'T KNOW ANYONE!!! Believe me, I tried beyond belief to get to any other airport, but that's where I got stranded.

Thanks to the logistics involved with getting out of and back to the airport, it was simply ridiculous for me to get a hotel room. And so... I spent the night in the Newark airport. I had wi-fi, a Samsung power station, my laptop, my external drive, snacks and geeklings across the country poking me on IM to make sure I didn't sleep through my flight.

The worst of it came when the flight I was finally booked on to get out of Newark put me in a middle seat in the back of the plane. Those who have met me, or have seen the right pictures are well aware that I am indeed a large mammal. Thankfully my seat mates were not also of the sizeable variety, but it was still very uncomfortable. Regardless of comfort, I pretty much slept through the entire 3.5 hours flight.

Once I was in Denver everything was good. My Dad picked me up from DIA and then took me out for Chinese food at our favorite restaurant. The ladies there made me get my camera so they could see the pictures and whipped me up some special Wonton soup when they heard my leftover cough. When I finally got home I sat down and turned on my computer to make sure there wasn't anyone looking for me, and to let my travel companions know I had arrived home safely. Within minutes the infamous Couch of Doom had me in its clutches and I slept until it was time for dinner. It felt soooooo good to stretch out in comfort and warm snuggly goodness.

But I am now home, safe, and not really any the worse for the wear. I am blessed with outstanding, funny and incredibly loving friends, the kindness and generosity of little men in Dunkin Dounts, Tastykake ODing, fussing ladies at China Bejiing and the most wonderful family in the world waiting for me to come home whenever I travel.

And just because he was sooooooo cute when he was begging me, I'm doing it all over again in 2 weeks. I get to drive my sister to NM the weekend after next after the Lucky Boy explained it to me tonight... "It's my turn to go, Aunt Jenn. My turn, pleeeeeeeeeeease?" That's what I get for letting him talk to the Monster Girl. She told him all about her trip with Aunt Jenn.

crazy aunt, grateful, family, friends, travel, insanity
