Day 8 - Happy Things Meme
I have two things for today: Charity & Friendship.
On my lunch hour today I will be delivering a custom designed/printed card and an envelope filled with gift cards to the Urban Peak Youth Shelter. My Star Wars group pooled together to collect 5 and 10 dollar gift cards to various places to donate at the shelter. The kids often need *lunch money* when they get a job or go to classes, and the shelter cannot give them cash for anything. These gift cards will enable to them to spend responsibly and to get the things that they need, or eat a decent meal on the go, giving them a sense of normalcy they might not otherwise experience. My donations to the shelter this year were made in honor of my many cyber-friends. Your friendship has enriched my life, and inspired me to enrich the lives of others. Thank you.
Today I get to see my defacto big brother and best friend. Mike and I have been friends for the last 25 years. He not only knows about all the skeletons in my closet, he's helped me hide a few of them. ;) He lives in Providence now, and is the head of veterinary medicine at the zoo there, so I don't get to see him very often. But instead of our normal whirlwind visits, he's going to be here for two weeks. Tonight we're going over to my sister's house so he FINALLY experience my brother-in-law's Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas. Living in Providence, he misses out on Mexican food, so when he's in town, we always hit all the best spots, but he's never been around long enough since my brother-in-law came into our lives to try this masterpiece of his. Tonight that all changes. I have a feeling that from now on he's going to make this a *must-have* part of any future visits. Yeah... It really is that damn good!
