twenty nine three twenty eleven
1. Hangman's Alphabet plays this Thursday, March 31, at O'Briens in Allston, with Piles, Tristan da Cunha, and the Tony the Bookie Orchestra. We play second, going on at 9:45. We'll be playing a new tune. This is one of Tristan's final shows, and it may be one of our final shows as well. But more on that later.
2. Just got back from a couple of weekends in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The PA weekend was to visit my family for my aunt Judy's birthday; as they just put in a Barnes & Noble in Lewisburg, and given that she's the mayor, I thought a Nook would be an apt present, so we all chipped in. The New Jersey trip was for, of course, a wedding; the 25th one Sarah and I have gone to, including our own. It was for one of Sarah's cousins on her dad's side; I'd never met either the bride or the groom, but we had a nice time.
3. Sarah and I have finally joined Team iPad; rather than wait umpteen weeks for one of the new models, I found a 32GB iPad 1 w/ 3G at the Watertown Best Buy. I've been loading it up with season 2 of Modern Family, a handful of apps, and Final Fantasy II. And given the numerous glitches my iPod has had (just today it dumped its whole music library once again), I'm pleased that the iPad runs on flash memory.
4. Am slowly working my way through Zadie Smith's "White Teeth"; appropriately, much of this has been at the Indian restaurant in Watertown Square. Her prose is so witty and effortless; when I was twenty-four I could barely string together a coherent blog post. So much has changed, right? Hm.
5. And, in keeping with another of my annual LJ traditions, here's my end-of-March ranking of all the movies I saw that came out in 2010. I only saw 27 movies from 2010, as opposed to 42 from 2009 at the same point last year; although given this year's ratings, maybe I just saw fewer shitty movies. Here we go:
