Apparently there's some commotion about a supposed "Blasphemy Challenge" on YouTube. A group of people (apparently led by what appears to be a fifteen year-old) have challenged atheists to make videos of themselves denying the existence of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Why? Because according to them, denying the Holy Spirit is the only unforgiveable sin. This is true; while you are in a state of denial, you will most assuredly go to Hell. Once you stop denying God, however, you can be redeemed. It is a mortal sin, and it does require reconciliation, but if you revoke your denial God will forgive you. Funny that the atheists are the ones that are reading the Bible literally now.
But wait, what about this "Blasphemy Challenge"? What about the...what, six-, seven-hundred people posting videos?
Who cares?
Men have been trying to disprove God since He first spoke to Abraham. This is not a new development.
If you feel the urge to post your own video confirming the existence of God, by all means, go for it. Do you know what you'll get for it? Unyielding opposition. You're not going to change these people's minds with a short YouTube video about why you believe in God. If anything, you'll give them more reason to fight. How, then, do we respond to them?
We don't. We ignore them.
"BUT QUINN IF WE IGNORE THEM THEY'LL PERPETUATE A LIE AND MAKE PEOPLE STOP BELIEVING IN GOD LOL!!!11"
Then what do you suggest? Do you want to go door-to-door telling people face-to-face that they're lying? I already told you that a short video is not going to change the minds of those who are resolute -- against or for God. The best way to change someone's mind is to show them how God has touched your life. A YouTube video isn't going to accomplish this. These people don't know you -- why should they care what you think?
What, exactly, am I suggesting then?
Forget about these blasphemers. They're not worth wasting time on. Worry more about your friends and family. People who know you are more likely to be persuaded by you.
People, there are always going to be opponents of your faith. Mankind will never come to absolute understanding of God on its own, and so there will always be those who disbelieve. It's something that you're going to have to get very used to. That doesn't mean that we should give up. But it also doesn't mean that we should make it our mission to convert everyone we can. People will come to conversion on their own. Pushing only makes them fight harder.
If someone loses their faith because they watched a two-minute video on YouTube, they never had any faith to begin with.
Don't make a mockery of yourself and your faith by getting upset over something this ridiculous. Pray for these people. That's the best thing you can do.
