Walk for Country Critters! Venice Beach, Sunday, August 6, Noon - 4 p.m. "Make a difference with every step you take! You can directly help rescue animals from factory farms, stockyards and slaughter houses, and provide them lifelong sanctuary, by participating in our annual Walk for Country Critters.
As a walkathon participant, you collect pledges from friends and family members (your sponsors!) and every dollar you raise will be used for animal feed, housing and veterinary care. We’ll be walking along the Venice Beach ocean boardwalk (pretty cool!) and along the way, we’ll pass out thousands of educational leaflets. The walkathon will finish (at the finish line of course!) with an L.A. beach party with [vegan] food, fun and prizes for all you dedicated walkers!
Animal Acres is caring for over 150 rescued farmed animals. With your support today, we can open our doors to many more."

Animal Acres is a farmed animal rescue in Acton, CA (about 45 minutes from LA). Their animals are all rescues from slaughterhouses that were shut down, babies that were dumped because they were too weak/ill to sell, etc.
My girlfriend (
_fishbone) and I just found out about them recently and started volunteering there a couple weeks ago, and we've already been back a few times. What they're doing is really amazing, and we've fallen in love with all three of their cows, and the baby lamb, and, well, all the animals. Also, I've never done any sort of... "vegan event" before, so I'm pretty excited.
Anyway - if you're available next weekend, you should come walk with us! I know Native Foods will be providing some of the beach party dinner, and I think they might have said that Real Food Daily would too.
...and if you can't go but still want to contribute, I'd love it if you would sponsor Robin or I... but only if you feel like it. :)
