My Argument Against:

Butterfly tattoos.

Butterflies, for some strange reason, are a symbolic metaphor.
Among all the crap they stand for, the prominent images are:

-beauty
-gracefulness
-freedom
-mystery

and so on.

But I was thinking about this the other night.
Have you ever stopped to THINK about the life cycle of a butterfly?

Hear me out.

They hatch from larva, the same as any other common insect.

They begin life as a worm, knowing nothing but the instinct to eat...and eat...and EAT.

Once they're full, they find a warm, dry place to build their cocoon.

Wrapped in this hideous brown bundle, they hide from the world, unobservant and oblivious.

If a predator comes, their cocoon can either be eaten (by another animal) or flicked off their wall or tree (by a mean human).

And still they are none the wiser.

They struggle to hatch. They lay eggs.
A few days later, they DIE!

Seriously, other than the fact that they are aesthetically pleasing, there is nothing tempting or alluring about butterflies. They're as freaky as any other bug that flutters or flaps once they are in your face or chasing you around, making you look like an asshole.

To me, butterflies are a symbol of

-superficiality
-simplicity
-unobservant and ignorant to the world which surround one.

Agree with me or don't. It's fine.

I just think everyone should rethink the meaning behind cliche symbols and metaphors. You may find that the most common ones have no meaning to YOU at all.

Thank you for your time.
