Hi,

I never got truly suicidal either. I have a pretty phenomenal will to live. But I did stick myself in a self-imposed limbo where I never really had to face the world or grow up in any real sense. I stayed a continual shy quiet adolescent because I couldn't bear to grow up into a man and I didn't know how to grow up into myself at that stage. Transition let me become an adult.

My name actually started from a nickname. I wanted a name that didn't sound as masculine as my given name and so I went by Rain for a while. Eventually a friend suggested that Rain sounded like a shortened version of Lorraine. I liked the sound of that so when I changed my name I decided that Lorraine would look better on job applications and official forms while I could keep Rain as a nickname. My middle name Angela I just always liked as a name, and my last name Donaldson came from my mother's maiden name and my grandfather because I really did not want to keep my father's last name. I also liked the three names together as a coherent whole: Lorraine Angela Donaldson.

Thanks,
Lorrraine
