We finally got around to doing our taxes on Saturday. Regarding which I have this to share:

Our refund is not so swell this year, but still enough to cover the purchase of our very own stairmaster! (Soooo exciting - I can't wait for it to ship! But I'll save my gushing until it actually arrives). After we were finished clicking our way through TurboTax we got out for a good long walk around the lake and some frisbee throwing in the grass, which made for an excellent remedy. That in turn was followed up by drinks and appetizers at Scruffy Murphy's with Rio's newest coworker. It's always interesting to first meet people from the work-half of his life - the faces and demeanors behind the names that have become familiar to me by proxy.
Also on the financial front we went for a second preliminary house hunting excursion on Sunday. This time we drove around Newark and Fremont checking out the neighborhoods around various listings. There may be hope for a yard yet! Next to find some areas further south with options in our price range.
I spent the rest of Sunday afternoon reading a few chapters further in the SQL book that I usurped from Rio, and babysitting the huge pot of chicken stock that I had simmering away on the stove. The apartment smelled lip-smacking all night. And the freezer is momentarily free of chicken carcases rearing up out of the frost. Ah the simple pleasures.
