I've lurked around LJ for a little while now, reading other people's stories and leaving comments for some of the excellent fiction I've read. I've been reading fanfic for...let's see, nearly ten years now. I've been deeply impressed by the quality of much of what I've read here, and have had a lot of fun thanking the authors for their quality contributions to fandom. My current fandom of choice is the Stargate universe, specifically Stargate Atlantis.
One thing I love about being interested in the Stargate fandom is that several members of my immediate family also watch it, which gives all of us someone to obsess with.
To include a bit of real life: there's a delectably wonderful amount of bookstores in my neighborhood. My favorite of these in an independent children's bookstore that only sells paperback books. The owner has many of the best (and most popular, of course) children's authors memorized, and can quickly assist customers without needing to refer to the computer. The store has a display window that carries a different theme each month or so. This month's theme is elephants, and includes such lovely books as "Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant And Other Poems". There are also two regular used book stores besides this one, each with its own individuality and specialties. I visited one of these yesterday for the first time since becoming involved (read: sucked in) with SGA, and was delighted to find that it's called "Rodney's Used Books". I had *never* heard the name Rodney before SGA, so this coincidence is great fun for me.
That's all for this first post. More later.
