The bar is dark and smoky, and Sam is seated in a corner, silently people-watching as he nurses a beer. He's looking for just the right person - not someone so big he could drop him off a roof if he wanted to, and not someone so old he could be his dad. No, he wants someone... like the guy seated at the bar with a silver ring on his finger that ( Read more... )

That was unexpected. Dean frequently found himself sitting in a dive like this, nursing a beer or something stronger after a case. He didn't usually find himself on the receiving end of a shiny smile like that, though. Well, not unless there was a sales pitch of some kind behind it.

He shifted slightly on his stool to face the stranger a little more and gave a lower wattage grin in return. "I was on business, but the business is concluded. Now I'm just killing some time. Why do you ask?"

He sizes him up quickly - nice build, really nice face, attractive smile. He looks like a regular guy, though. Not overly wealthy. "Just 'cause I've never seen you around here before. What kinda business?" He finishes his beer and sets the bottle down, leaning against the bar as he watches the man intently.

"Freelance. I'm a reporter for the Kansas Star Journal. Story didn't pan out, though." He gave a languid shrug and tipped back the last of his whiskey. He waved over the bartender for a refill and gave a nod to the empty beer bottle for a replacement.

In spite of his father's disapproving face in the back of his mind, Dean let himself give his conversation companion a once-over. Younger than he usually let himself consider (they reminded him a little too much of his brother), but definitely easy on the eyes. "Name's Dean."

"A reporter? Awesome. I've never met a reporter before." He takes the new bottle with a smile and a murmured thank you, bringing it to his lips. He can feel Dean's eyes on him, and he doesn't shy away in the slightest, instead nudging closer, resting one elbow on the bar.

"I'm Sam. Nice to meet you."

Very funny, universe. Dean actually blinked a second before he chuckled and nodded. "Nice to meet you, too, Sam."

The name thing was a little awkward, but not a deal breaker. He dropped a couple fives on the bar to cover the drinks and the tip, then he turned back to Sam. "It's a pretty good gig. Lots of travel. Interesting people. What do you do?"

Sam doesn't miss the slight hesitation before Dean's reply, though he doesn't mention it, just files it away for later. He pauses slightly himself when Dean asks about his job - not that he's ashamed, per se, it's just always a little awkward the first time. He never knows how people will react.

Okay, and he's a little ashamed.

"I... uh..." He clears his throat, accidentally clinking his teeth against the rim of the bottle. He quickly composes himself. "I'm someone who could show you a really good time." He smiles and reaches over to touch the ring on Dean's finger. "I noticed that when I first saw you over here."

That was one of the answers he was half expecting to hear. A little surprising, even so. Sam looked kind of young to be in the business, but even young kids had to pay the bills somehow. Life got tough sometimes, he knew, and not everyone had a father who taught them credit card fraud as a means for survival.

Dean looked down at the touch and flexed his fingers a little under Sam's. Even though he kept it on his right hand, it still gave people pause now and then. "It makes a pretty good bottle opener and it irritates the hell out of people when I tap it on things. That's pretty much its two primary functions."

"Two totally worthy functions, if you ask me." He grins, taking another drink. Dean doesn't freak out at the realization that he's a hooker, so he takes that as a sign that he's free to continue. He lets his hand linger on Dean's ring for a moment longer. "Are you gonna be in town long?"

"I hadn't decided. Probably head out tomorrow unless something catches my interest." The truth was that he hadn't thought much about it. He could leave any time, really, but didn't have a place to go right at the moment. Besides, sticking around a day or two was starting to sound like a good plan, now. As much as he liked to pride himself on not having to pay for sex, sometimes he just did. The proverbial offer he couldn't refuse.

He picked up his drink to take a sip, leaving the other hand still under Sam's fingers. "You got a line on the hot spots?"

Well. Sam is determined to catch his interest, then. "If you were interested in the hot spots, you could've said so earlier." He moves his hand from Dean's, only to grasp the back of his neck, absently carding his fingers up the back of Dean's short hair. "You happen to be looking at the most awesome person in this town."

Dean grinned at that assertion as his head tilted a little into the touch of Sam's fingers. It'd been a while since he'd had any company and his neck was a sensitive spot, besides. Sam's age, his name, and his profession were becoming less and less of a consideration. "That's a pretty big declaration. I might have to ask you to back it up."

"I can back it up if you're interested." He smiles as he feels Dean react beneath his touch. He's almost got this one in the bag. "Are you interested? I can show you the town... after we get to know each other a little better. What do you say, Dean?"

Hey, why the hell not? He did his job. No reason he couldn't have some time for himself. He tipped the last of his whiskey back and put the empty glass down on the bar. "After you," he gestured toward the door with slight flourish and a grin.

He grins and finishes his beer, leaving the bottle beside Dean's glass as he hops off the stool. He winds one arm through Dean's, tugging him along. "Good choice. Great choice. You won't regret this. Where are you staying?"

He had to chuckle a little at being led around by the arm. If Sam's skills matched his enthusiasm, then Dean would be inclined to believe his boasting. It wasn't like he was spending his own money, anyway.

"Not far. A couple of blocks over. Place called the Caribbean Motel. Not exactly the classiest joint in town, I'm afraid." It had the most god-awful underwater motif, but at least it was clean. For Dean, that was a step up from the usual lodgings.

"I don't mind. I'm used to motels. The Caribbean isn't half bad." He leads him outside to the parking lot. His body feels strong, from what Sam can touch. He smells faintly of... something. A scent Sam can't quite place. It reminds him of being a child, though, back when his dad used to take him hunting. He's a decent shot now, but never quite learned to appreciate killing animals no matter how much his dad tried to convince him.

"Do you have a car?" He glances around, out of habit, making sure there's no one shady lurking around the lot.
