Happy Anniversary to us...

Well, not today, but this Thursday is our first anniversary. There's no way we can be together for it... or even anytime soon. The next feasible time for a visit is looking to be around the end of May. I'm not going to lie to you, it's a bit depressing. One could say I'm at a low ebb here, but I'll try not to get too emo about it. It just kinda feels like we're building sand castles in the tide... keep heaping sand on only to see it washed away.

Heather's working her ass off and I'm having no luck finding a second job... probably going about it wrong, but I don't know how. We're barely keeping our heads above water financially. I figured some of those big box stores would be ideal for the kind of thing I have in mind, but I've applied to PetCo, Best Buy, Circuit City, Safeway, and a couple others, and Best Buy's the only one that's even sent me so much as an email back, and then nothing from 'em after the interview (and they all had ads looking for workers when I applied). As for jobs more geared toward tech stuff, I've seen a few but the same story there... I never hear back. I think my resume's pretty good, and if anything I'm looking at jobs below what I think I'm qualified for.

So yeah, not at all what I expected a year after marriage. I was hoping we could at least live together by now. And no word from the Canadian government on when they'll get around to processing me. Apparently the last government made a huge mess of immigration (tons of new requirements - mostly security-related - and no new workers/funds to actually help with processing them) and the new government is proposing a fix... not by adding more money, of course, but by giving the minister the unsupervised power to queue-jump people, which will likely mean *more* wait times for folks like me who are applying on a family visa rather than a work one.

Yeah, fuck the world. That is all.
