Mesa Vista - My BaCC for fun: Week 5, Part 12 University (Outside)

Nov 08, 2015 17:14

New Mesa Vista update - please tell me it hasn't been six months since the last one? D:

Welcome back to Mesa Vista and more about its first University attendees, the Outside girls and their fellow sorority members.

In the recent-ish Outside chapter, third daughter Emily had left the main house to join her older sisters Nicole and Mina at La Fiesta Tech.

“Hi, I’m at the dorm, are you gonna come get me?”

“Hi, Em, nice plumbbob!”

Good ol’ Andi was as easy going and fun loving as I remembered.

While Laura Langerak still took her career as a student rather more seriously than her sorority sisters.

It was a given that Emily would be accepted into the Venture House (and I changed my mind and kept her in green instead of the pink I'd always pictured her in).

“Help yourself to pizza, there’s always plenty to go around.”
Emily pulled off a slice, always game for some ooey gooey melted cheese.

After eating, Mina offered to show her younger sister around the campus if she would help test pool reflections with her first.

Too bad La Fiesta Tech didn’t have a swim team, because Emily would have made it easily!

Success! I’m so happy to have pool reflections back! Thank you girls, and thank you Kiri at Leefish!

It didn’t take Emily long to assimilate into Greek House life.

Yep, good old Greek House life…

Where everyone and their mother were opening a can of whupass on the cow mascot.

Except the one that possibly could have been someone’s mother.
“Hypocrite! All these years you’ve been hounding us while you… and you call yourself a coach and… and who invited you anyway?!”

Yeah, thought so…
“Coach, can you come here a sec, I need some help doing my sit-ups..?”

“My first advice: that’s no way to dress for sit-ups..!”
“Never mind that, what would really help is if you could fix us a proper meal, we’ve had nothing but pizza since as long as I can remember,” Andi cajoled in her most influential tone. (And unlike last week, made sure the fridge was fully stocked!)
“Oh, all right, I’ll do it.”
Emily gasped at Andi’s chutzpah.

D’OH (and LOL)! Touché, coach, touché…

"Blah blah blah, PWND!"

“Dang, now I really do want something besides pizza for dinner,” Nicole lamented from the sofa.

“Hey, I can always make grilled cheese!”
“Great idea, Em!”

So, while Emily made grilled cheese…

Andi did homework in everybody’s favorite spot behind the front door.

Mina’s obsession with the ballet barre hadn’t dwindled in the least from last week.

And Nicole checked out the new pottery wheel because I haven’t used it before, and I thought it would suit Andi in Mesa Vista after she graduates.

“Anyone seen Laura lately?”

Indeed, Laura hadn’t been around much lately. She never regretted joining the Venture House, and while she felt accepted by the others, she also felt sort of the odd one out. She was different, no doubt about it, and she was becoming more and more intrigued by the notion of taking a path with a less predictable outcome…

She guessed meeting a witch would be the least radical way to work toward her future in unconventiality, but joining the Atrociously Wicked was perhaps a bit too radical for her seven Nice points.

Still, she had made a pact to interact with the first witch she encountered and mustered up the courage to introduce herself. After all, this journey she was embarking on wasn’t for the timid or faint of heart.

AEW Kerie Cormier didn’t seem too keen on having a new recruit, which was actually fine with Laura. She would gladly take her business elsewhere…

Over at Zach's Hoops, I didn’t know visitors could use the Energizer I had placed for him. I won’t abuse it in the future, but it came in handy for Laura.

“I’m sure good witches show up here from time to time, right?”

IGW Ally Tomyoy did stop by eventually, and was more receptive to Laura’s queries about the Craft.

Laura felt an instant affinity with her and had confidence that she was now embarking on the right path.

“Hold still, this won’t hurt a bit!”

“Nicely done. You’re off to a good start, young Laura.”

“Dang, this is going to be fun!”

Meanwhile, back to the bit more mundane at the Venture House…
“Dad!”

“Dad, hi! *family kiss* What are you doing here?”
“Seeing how the girl genius, our Statue of Simmerty is doing.”
“Dad!” Emily giggled. “I’m fine!”

Well, for a while Emily wasn’t doing so fine, although I consider it my failure, and I still don’t know how she missed her first final exam. That was a first for me, as was having a Sim on academic probation. So much for taking care of the Outside girls as if they were my own!

But Nicole and Mina had rallied around their younger sister and together whipped her grades back into shape!

“Dad, I want you to meet my surprise. This is Andi. She and I are…”
“Nicole and I are together!”
“Aw, I’m happy for you. Your mom and I got together when she was in college too.”

(Nemo’s visit to his daughters courtesy of Sims autonomy.)

What good students!

And then Laura finally returned from flitting about.

This is the Witch Hut ;) I built for her.

“Wow, I'm getting good at this!”

(The coffee table, mirror and two far-east lamps came from Laura’s inventory, who was obviously a loyal customer of Shin’s Orient. The gorgeous Steampunk wallpaper can be found at MTS.)

While Laura seemed to have found her calling, Mina made a call of her own - to purchase the vacation home she had been wanting for ages...
“Yes, I’m sure I want to purchase it!”
And then immediately rolled a want to purchase another one. Really?!
“Yes, really!”
Aren’t we being a wee bit greedy?
“Greedy?! Twelve thousand simoleons for a tropical vacation home doesn’t sound greedy, it sounds like the real estate deal of the century!”
Can’t argue with that…

“Emily and I are gonna check out my new place on Twikkii Island. It’s just for a couple of days, if you’d like to tag along.”

It took Laura a while to warm up to the idea of leaving behind her spellbook and cauldron (*cough* she and Mina still weren't friends yet). But she also knew what Twikkii Island offered and wasn't about to pass up the opportunity…

“Question: Why me and not Nicole?”
“Surely you don’t need me to tell you? *snicker*”
"Hehe, right!"

“Finally, the house to ourselves!”

Tada! Mina’s real estate deal of the century.
"It's not bad. A little small, but not bad."

"Okaa-ay..."

If you haven’t guessed, it’s the little shack in the woods from Pleasantview, packaged and then given a slight tropical makeover - mainly the wall coverings, windows and vegetation.

“Emily, you’ve gotta help me fix this place up, all right?”

Oh, hey, a local walk-by! Let’s try to get a Hang Loose while we’re here too.

Mm-hm…

Laura had her own agenda, namely finding a map that would lead her to a voodoo doll.

D’OH, skunked again!

“What now?”

To the beach, hopefully they would be more forthcoming there…
(OHAI, Sim-sun!)

Blah blah, haha, everything under said Sim-sun except Hang Loose!

Sorry, girls, SOL again!

Oh well, just as important was getting Laura her voodoo doll.
“Yes!”

Mina and her little entourage were all mid-level in their Mechanical skill, so it took a bit of effort on their part, but not too bad.

Aha, caughtcha!

“Come on, Em, or we won’t have time to work on my place.”
"Yay?"

Caughtcha again!

All right, one-third mission accomplished…

Laura periodically rolled a want to cast a spell, and her first one was Spiritus Poultria, to the amusement of the Witch Doctor.

Then all three wanted to go on a tour.
"Who'd have guessed we'd get §500 parasailing for the first time, eh?"

Laura was itching to try a voodoo spell, but which one?

It was still taking a concerted effort for Laura and Mina to warm up to each other, so Laura went with the friend spell.

“Sorry I made you cluck like a chicken back there.”
“What are best friends for?”
“Haha, er… right!”

Since I didn’t want to alter the floorplan, it took some trial and error to get Mina’s vacation home situated. I had never used this pattern of the IKEA sofa before because the thumbnail looked like camo, but I really like the graphic floral.

I did add a lanai to the back for the kitchen and eating area.

And there it was, a cozy tropical retreat for Mina that I would take in a heartbeat! Especially for §12K ;)

After the vacation, I left everyone on free will during the final hours after Nicole and Mina’s graduation.

Oh yeah! I hadn't seen them break dance for a while.

“We’re passing the torch on to you, Emily, I know you’ll do great!”
“I hope so.”
“You will! Andi and Laura will help, and Mina and I are only a phone call away.”

Mina grew into her vacation top!

“Until next week, ma cherie…”

“I miss you already.”
“It’s only a week.”
“Do you know how long a week lasts around here?”
“Oh noes, I forgot about that, what are we gonna do?!”
“Andi!”
“Just kidding, we’ll be fine! Don’t forget to plan something fabulous for us!”
“Okay, I will! Bye…”

One last look at the Venture House Greek House, with Laura’s Witch Hut to the left.

Back to the Outside lot in Mesa Vista...
Wow. On a personal note, I’ve played this family in multiple hoods for various reasons since 2008, and this is the first time any of the kids have reached full-fledged adulthood. Lots of nostalgia with that, but looking forward to the future too!

So there they are, Mesa Vista’s first college graduates, and two of the three needed for their mom Ciel to become perma-plat.
