Hi, I'm back with more of Week 5!
Welcome back to more Mesa Vista, where this time we’ll be revisiting Diane Shin and her family. Diane, you may recall, has the travel bug, and her hubby, Stephan, became a Business Tycoon in Week 4, earning Mesa Vista its second Business District.
Let’s see what else happened before the Shin’s made their way to Twikkii Island…
Their oldest son Stan was quite the prodigy when it came to skilling. In the previous week he aced Logic and, with the help of his father’s execuputter, Charisma, opening a position in both Science and Entertainment, should he ever get a hankering for either of those careers. This week, he was tackling Creativity.
His little brother Devon was busy mastering the art of utter cuteness.
Good ol’ Diane was as eccentric as ever. She’s one of many Knowledge Sims in Mesa Vista that want to be a Mad Scientist, and I could interpret her son maxing Logic as opening a position in Science for his mother as well, but she also rolled a want to get a job in Adventure. I tweaked the rules for that career, so in addition to placing a Museum, a Sim must get all the vacation mementos, which in Diane’s case suits her perfectly.
So, while waiting for Adventure to open up, Diane also took a job in Business, because me want more Business Districts!
“Hurry up, Mom, you'll miss Devon’s birthday!”
And there goes Devon.
All right, very cute!
Immediately followed by Stan… Eh, okay? That hair has definitely got to go now.
Stan’s fashion tragedy shot, if you like that sort of thing (I do).
Much better.
Ooh, I was hoping to watch Menice pulverize Devon’s homework.
“Aww, whatcha doin’, boy?”
Dangit, Diane! *grrr*
“Can you get the stick, boy?”
There’s a steep drop off the left and back sides of the Shin’s lot, so I placed some large custom oleanders around those edges. They look more realistic than the smaller Maxis ones, at least the ones that grow in California.
“Good boy!”
I had to include this picspam. I just adopted a dog, and he’s really good at playing fetch!
To Alia: “Good girl!”
All right, I think we’ve established that Devon is an animal lover (and Mesa Vista could use a pet store some time in the future).
Devon is the first kid I’ve seen get sick from being swung around.
The Business career is all about having weekends off, and by Friday Diane was one promotion away from being a Business Tycoon.
“Good job, honey!”
The Shins celebrated the week’s success with a trip to Twikkii Island.
“Hahaha, this seaweed is so hilarious, Dad!”
“When can we go swimming?”
“As soon as I comb up something good to take home.”
“All right, guys, keep an eye out for locals Hula-ing and Hanging Loose.”
Several lots later, and still no Hula-ing or Hanging Loose.
“Wanna Hang Loose with me so I can teach my mom?”
“I like your flip-flops.”
“Thanks. Can we Hang Loose now?”
“I could use some flip-flops.”
UGH!
“The locals aren’t very cooperative here. I need to relax.”
“Oh, that’s so much better. Can you teach me how to do that?”
“What is this place, Dad?”
“It’s the Wise Old, or is it the Old Wise Witchdoctor’s…”
“Honey, you’re getting your secret lots mixed up.”
“Am I? Anyway, if this guy can’t help us find where we can learn to Hang Loose, I don’t know who can.”
“You ask him.”
“No, you ask him!”
“Ask what, boys?”
“Umm… know anyone who Hangs Loose around here?”
*Stand stretch yawn*
*And headed for the door*
“Good Wright, would you look at this place?”
D’OH!
The witchdoctor could use some oleanders too…
I love this picture of Devon.
“It’s a wonder this place hasn’t burned to the ground.”
“Okay, that should do it.”
“My home is inhabitable again. Here, have a voodoo doll.”
“Um, thanks? Say, you wouldn’t be able to point us to where they Hang Loose with the tourists..?”
“Google? Instant City?”
Dangit, Diane didn’t have enough time to get all her mementos because I scheduled them for just four days on Twikkii, forgetting how damned tired Sims get while they’re on vacation. I swear, they want to sleep half the time.
“And you forgot our surfboards.”
ARRRGH! Oh well, go ahead and get the ship ones.
“Aye aye, cap’n!”
“Surrender!
You mean you wish to surrender to me? Very well, I accept!”
Yay, the Sea Shanty. Sure I’m gonna love that… :P
“Arrh, ye scurvy knave!”
“Surely I can see someone on this island Hanging Loose from up here.”
Yep, the vacation was way too short…
And they’re back again, this time staying at the cheaper Double Palm Resort, which had some nice amenities, including a pool.
And its own food stand, which was very efficient when you had places to go and things to see (and Hang Looses to get).
Much more efficient than the restaurant at the Twikkii Beach Hotel, as nice as it was.
Or the room service, for that matter, as beautiful as the view was.
Anyway, I’ve been wanting to try the Surf’s Up mod by maybesomethingidunno at MTS ever since it first came out. It’s a very cool mod, though more suited for picture taking than actual gameplay, IMO.
I’m not really digging the darker water with my new laptop’s better graphics card.
“Hey, anyone here want to Hang Loose or Hula?”
Local island chick: “Dum-de-dum-de-dum…”
Had to squeeze in a couple more tours…
Some with good outcomes, others not so much…
Eventually, the men stayed behind at the hotel while Diane went after the rest of her mementos.
Woo, fire dance - check!
After hopping back and forth between numerous lots, I finally read that the Witchdoctor will do the Hula if you turn on his stereo.
“Any chance you’ll Hang Loose with me too?”
D’OH!!
“Oh, benevolent Mr. Numchuck, I’m at my wit’s end. Please can I find just one local willing to Hang Loose with me?”
“Can’t…do this…any…moooooo…zzzzzzz”
“Lalalalala *hangloose*”
*pushesstupidlocaldownstairs*
“I’ve just come up with two more ideas,” Diane mumbled around her Pineapple Surprise, “neither of which is doable this week. We can afford to buy a vacation home, right?”
“Yes. What do you have in mind?”
“I’ll tell you on the flight back.”
Back at the Shin's home in Mesa Vista:
“Yes, we’ll take the smallest one, the Brickstone Retreat, as long as the locks are in good working order...”
“So, we really have our very own vacation home now?”
“Your mother is a very determined woman,” was all Stephan would say.
Thanks to Diane’s multiple promotions during the week, the Shins also had plenty of money for Stephan to buy his own business, an office supply store called Shin’s Office Supply, or SOS for short.
The inside is cozy yet officy.
And that’s all for the Shins this week.
Mementos remaining for Diane to acquire: Hang Loose + the ones from Three Lakes. If she can’t get the Hang Loose in Week 6, I’m going to open up Adventure anyway, since I feel it’s the game mechanics more than me preventing her from getting it.
