So, it's been a while since I've made a cross country move.
My strategy is this: sell or giveaway most of my furniture (either to the roommate staying in the apartment of to whoever wants it/will come pick it up). The few items I really like I'll store at my mom's stuff, but I'm not bringing my gross mattress, our old broken futon couch, or the countless shitty bookshelves I have.
I'm also going to store most of my precious childhood shit at my mom's house upstate. Ditto most of my books.
That leaves the stuff I am bringing: a few small boxes of books, lots and lots of clothing and bedding and towels, and some kitchen stuff. A computer, a cat, and possibly some records, although I'm still debating bringing the record player.
My question for you all is: what is the cheapest way of doing this? What are the cheapest ways to ship stuff that can be packed into boxes? Time is no object. I have time on my side.
Afterthought: would it be worthwhile to do one of those "drive away" things and fill up someone else's car with my stuff? (And ship what doesn't fit.) Or will the gas not make it worth it? In that case, what about my cat?
