That time of year & 20

20yrs been teaching this year.

Crazy crazy crazy.

No matter how over-the-top it gets I still believe in what I do and love doing it.

The reason I say this is cause recently I was having a conversation with somebody who asked what kept me going. More to the point, what kept any teacher going? I mean a 'teacher' and not the teacher who is there for 'the' paycheck cause frankly it is never enough.

I teach because it matters.

The day it doesn't matter anymore is when it'll be time to leave.

This year is finally showing the toll it's been taking on me.

The various injuries from being in the field. The in-the-line of duty permanent back injury yrs ago. The bad foot that has worn me down for a yr though healed is edgey. The grey that started to 'suddenly' come in a consistent swathe in a front section 2 yrs ago during an exceptionally challenging year but had outcome of a letter of sort of saying the really exceptional good work I did pulling rabbit out of hat, from Livingston St to my bosses. The darned heavy knapsack. The body aches more now from all of it.

BUT....I still like teaching and wouldn't leave it.

I teach because it matters.

But I am very very achey tired tonight and a bit sniveling cold-ish and chest aches with a little cough.

Always lovely.
