ebooks, .lit, DRM removal and hating Bill Gates

Looking for some help.

I have a dozen or so bought and paid for .lit ebooks.

One reads .lit ebooks by downloading and activating Microsoft Reader. One strips the DRM from them (in order to then convert to an actual ebook reader format that I can use) by having an activated copy of MS Reader and ConvertLit.

As of 30th Aug 2012 you can no longer activate MS Reader. (Yes, I am fully aware of how much my timing sucks.) Needless to say, my last copy of activated MS Reader was many years and harddrives ago.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to strip the DRM from .lit without having an activated copy of MS Reader, or am I just going to have to call a loss of £50+ worth of books?

(My soul purse is weeping at the thought...)

Help?

ETA: And people wonder some are so opposed to ebooks...

you could not make this shit up
