And I'm in one piece! *does geeky victory dance in tiny hotel room*
See, that's what being me on this trip means -- that while I'm checking in, I get caught up in the drama of other people checking in and arguing with the desk about the need to leave a credit card on the room when they're paying in advance with a check.
But I didn't want to bitch this soon! Anyway, all is forgiven to the hotel for its Crab Chowder, which was delivered to my room steaming hot and was the BEST SOUP EVER.
The trip was rather overwhelming, and the city is very much so. It's been a long time since I traveled out of Midway airport, and the concourses are very long (but at least they have people-movers on some stretches). SFO was a little better, but completely without any moving walkways to help me along. Still, after sitting on a plane for so many hours, the walking felt good (and necessary!)
From the cab, San Francisco seems dryer than I'd imagined it. This must be the dry season, I suppose. Or maybe the area around the city is high desert or something like that. Things are just more brown than green in lots of areas. I don't usually think of Chicago as lush, but this year with regular rain our vegetation *is* lush, and I'm spoiled by it.
I'm wearing an ostomy bag and have more with me. God help me, I think I'm getting used to having an annoying itchy thing there. At least I'm not wrecking clothing, bedding, etc. I've managed to empty the bag at work several times, and in public restrooms at airports today, without major mess or embarrassment.
My naval is still draining at a good pace, bloody water and now chunks of tissue. Rich was afraid my stomach was falling apart under the bag, but my best guess is that it's tumor tissue (or tiny tumors) just getting caught up in the flow to escape. Of course, I have no idea if that's a good thing, a bad thing, or just to be expected.
I'm going to be tied up all day tomorrow with work. I hope all of you will be spending the day doing enjoyable things with enjoyable people!
