Woke up this a.m. to the lovely news that our home remodel got accepted in the 2009 Tour of Remodeled Homes. Very excited although, truth be known, we were half way expecting it. It just seemed like we had an interesting and significant remodel/addition going on that would be a shoo in. But one never knows and there was some worry that we weren't ( Read more... )

I can't wait to see it--I'm here over Christmas and New Year, because Mary and Rick are going to Illinois, and then Mom and Jean and John and Lori are here over New Years. But maybe we can do a long weekend visit in January sometime?

Margie sounds awesome.

As a side note, it struck me recently how big a hole they were going to have to hack in my concrete slab to do plumbing to install a 'real' washer--it's not like a little, ladylike hole to shove a pipe through. They'd have to cut a big enough square to excavate dirt, get to the pipes, weld a pipe--I just don't feel good about that at all. I like my solid, non-leaking, non-cracked slab foundation, you know?

And the washer won't fit under the kitchen counter after all--there's a corner that cuts in that I missed. While looking at the LG washer/dryer combo, I noticed the wheels and hoses to make it portable.

So the new plan is: next spring, with tax money plus some, buy the washer and use it as portable, with a plan of redoing the bathroom sink area eventually to make room for it under there. :) I have drawings for that already, but it's going to be a project, so I want to have the washer in hand to make sure I'm designing the counter correctly, you know?

I wouldn't be afraid of concrete cutting. They had to cut the concrete in our basement floor when they did the sewer. And a 2' x 3' hole was cut in our foundation for all the plumbing, etc. for the kitchen bump out. Those guys (assuming you got good concrete cutters) really know what they're doing.

Too bad you couldn't make a quickie trip right after Thanksgiving....
